Free health checks on offer Thursday 23rd February

February 14th, 2012

Sportspark’s specialist Fitness Advisors will be offering free health checks and advice to members of the public, to raise awareness of the importance of heart health this February.

Every year the British Heart Foundation launches an awareness campaign during National Heart Month in February. Heart disease is the UK’s biggest killer and the British Heart Foundation aims to raise awareness about the different types of heart and circulatory disease, the symptoms, prevention, treatment and recovery. This year Sportspark Fitness Advisors, who are all sports graduates, will be offering free blood pressure, weight and resting heart rate checks. Other fitness tests including strength, flexibility and grip tests will be available for those who are interested in assessing other elements of their health.

The free drop-in health checks will be available on Thursday 23 February from 9.30am until 5pm in the Bowthorpe Room. Information leaflets with advice from Sportspark Fitness Advisors will also be provided.

Maria Rowe, Acting Director of Sport said “We decided to support the British Heart Foundation raise awareness of the importance of heart health because one in three deaths in the UK are caused by heart and circulatory disease. With our busy lives we often take for granted the importance of keeping active, so these quick and simple health checks are a great way of reminding people to start thinking about looking after their heart. Our Fitness Advisors will be able to offer advice on how people can increase their activity levels and fit this into their busy schedules.”
